Standing Strong: A Study in Japanese Culture Through Places of Interest
A downloadable game for Windows
This game was made to showcase the results of academic research performed through the University of Pittsburgh Brackenridge Fellowship.
Emperor Meiji rose to power in Japan in the late 1860s, coinciding with the end of Japan's centuries of isolationism as well as the fall of the military rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The country needed to rapidly develop to esetablish its place in the modern world, leading to a great amount of economic, cultural, and militaristic change. This game allows players to traverse each era of Japanese history since the Meiji Restoration and visit various physical locations on an interactive timeline, seeing how these massive developments in Japanese culture and society were reflected in tangible ways.
